Application Procedure
Please note that this process is designed to provide the student with
experience in writing a research proposal. The student must be the
primary author of the proposal. However, students are expected to work
with their mentors during the proposal writing process for feedback,
advice, etc.
- Student completes the
on-line Magellan
Scholar application form and registers in
USCeRA
- 2. Develop a two-page proposal that follows the requirements
outlined in the Magellan Scholar Guidebook (PDF/Word)
- Attach the following supporting documentation to the end of the
proposal packet:
- An undergraduate transcript including grades (An "official
transcript" is NOT required.) Note: copy and paste VIP
transcript to the end of your proposal.
- A letter of collaboration from the student's faculty mentor
(must include the mentoring role in the project and the basis
for concluding that the student is capable of completing the
project at a high level of quality.) Letters must be submitted
electronically through USCERA with the proposal.
- An itemized budget and justification of anticipated
expenditures. Budget form (PDF/Word);
the budget is in addition to the two page proposal.
- If the project includes travel abroad, a letter of approval
must be included from the Study Abroad Office. Please see the
Magellan Scholar Guidebook for more information.
- Submit the completed proposal packet:
- Through USCeRA by the
faculty mentor
and ensure it is APPROVED by your chair, dean and/or chancellor
before 5:00 pm on deadline date.
- By choosing student name(s) under “co-PI” on the PAP form in
USCeRA
- By selecting Program Type as “fellowship/undergraduate
research”
- By selecting "Internal Request" VP for Research" and
choosing category type (Magellan Scholar) from the USCERA
dropdown menu to ensure proper proposal routing.
- Using the Internal Commit Form to list the amount that you
are requesting from the VPRHS. Enter total in Year 1 Amount
ONLY. Do not enter an amount in the Start-Up box. The total will
calculate automatically for you.
- By uploading as ONE file using Adobe PDF or MSWord formats.
